Automatic Reboot?: No
Status: General Release
Critical:
Yes
PHSS_33040: ABORT
A cm connection object is being freed twice which may
cause cmomd to abort due to internal memory allocation
problems.
Category Tags:
defect_repair enhancement general_release critical
halts_system
Path Name: /hp-ux_patches/s700_800/11.X/PHSS_33040
Symptoms:
PHSS_33040:
1. Defect: JAGag21867 SR: 8606466359
Users with password greater than 8 characters would not
be able to authenticate using Serviceguard Manager
after they convert the system to trusted. Users get
authentication errors and "Invalid user or password"
even though they are entering the exact same password
they always used and can still login to the system using
the password.
2. Defect: JAGaf60279 SR: 8606400324
In rare circumstances, cmomd may abort due
to internal memory allocation problems.
PHSS_32741:
1. If customer has multiple different versions of Oracle
RAC DB in one cluster, SGCOM couldn't display RAC
instance correctly:
a. For Oracle 9.0.1 and 9.2
SGCOM will display duplicate db name.
b. For Oracle9i and Oracle10g
customer will get an error message like:
PRKR-1007 : getting of cluster database dbname
configuration failed,
PRKR-1078 : Database dbname cannot be administered
using current version of srvconfig.
Instead run srvconfig from <ora_home>/bin
PRKO-2005 : Application error: Failure in getting
Cluster Database Configuration for:dbname
2. Customers who have nodes configured with shared standby
interfaces will find duplicate standby interfaces
entered into their cluster ascii files when configuring
the cluster using SGMGR. This will result in the
following error being reported during the cmapplyconf
stage:
Error: NETWORK_INTERFACE lanX specified twice for
node YYY, line ZZ
3. This patch contains an enhancement that allows SGCOM to
support the configuration of IP over InfiniBand network
interfaces in a cluster for heartbeat and data
networks. There is no external symptom associated with
this enhancement.
PHSS_31078:
1. When using Serviceguard Manager to remove a node from
the cluster configuration, it fails. The Serviceguard
Manager progress dialog will show that the membership
change operation failed.
2. When using Serviceguard Manager to modify an existing
cluster configuration, and cluster nodes are configured
with multiple standby LAN interfaces, all but the first
standby LAN interface are removed from the configuration.
3. File descriptor was not freed in Cluster Object
Manager. However, since the Cluster Object Manager
daemon is short-lived, there is no symptom.
4. When using Serviceguard Manager to do package
configuration, after the cmapplyconf command succeeds,
there is a small chance that Serviceguard Manager will
report a failure and the package control scripts will
revert to the state they were in before cmapplyconf
ran.
5. In a SGeRAC cluster, Serviceguard Manager fails to get
Oracle RAC instance status if Oracle user uses csh.
6. With configurations with large numbers of disks,
Serviceguard Manager may take a long time to refresh
if the cluster or node property sheets are open. Also,
the target systems may spend significant resources
probing disks during refreshes.
7. For a certain range of large timeout values
(NODE_TIMEOUT, HEARTBEAT_INTERVAL, QS_TIMEOUT, etc.)
in cluster configuration (through Serviceguard Manager),
the value gets modified / reduced because of
internal conversion.
PHSS_31074:
1. This patch only contains an enhancement that allows
Serviceguard to utilize the services of the identd
daemon. Therefore there is no external symptom.
Defect Description:
PHSS_33040:
1. Defect: JAGag21867 SR: 8606466359
Serviceguard was not using the correct crypting method
Resolution:
Serviceguard has been modified to use the correct
encryption
2. Defect: JAGaf60279 SR: 8606400324
The cm_connection object was being freed by both the
object destructor function and by the object free
routine. It should have only been freed in the object
free routine.
Resolution:
Remove the free statement in the object destructor
function.
PHSS_32741:
1. dbprovider uses Oracle utility srvctl to discover RAC
instance status. When multiple RACs are installed on
one cluster, "svrctl config" can find all database
names, but "srvctl status" command only works for the
related database.
Resolution:
Use Oracle utility srvctl to find the correct
ORACLE_HOME for each instance before run "srvctl
status" command to discover the RAC instance status.
2. The code was not handling shared standby interfaces
correctly and was adding the same standby interface
for each primary interface it was a standby for.
Resolution:
Code is added to the utility that generates ascii file
from the SGMGR data, that eliminates duplicate standby
interfaces.
3. SGCOM does not currently support IP over InfiniBand
network interfaces in a cluster.
Resolution:
Code is added to SGCOM to support the configuration
of IP over InfiniBand network interfaces for cluster
heartbeat and data networks.
PHSS_31078:
1. There is a comparison between the COM server and the
list of nodes in the cluster. "hostname" is used to get
the COM server info, and hostname sometimes has domain
name attached. When comparison is between the fully-
qualified domain name and the simple hostname it fails
for the same node, e.g. comparison if abcd.hp.com and
abcd, returns failure.
Resolution:
A check has been added that strips off domain name from
the hostname, if the hostname contains one.
2. An internal COM utility failed to convert multiple
standby interface data correctly.
Resolution:
Internal COM utility sdf2ascii has been modified to
handle multiple standbys correctly.
3. Command providers directory was not closed after
reading the files in that directory.
Resolution:
Closed the command providers directory after reading.
4. A race condition in the command provider scripts is
caused by asynctool completing prematurely.
Resolution:
Made asynctool more robust so it will survive
disconnects of its client.
5. DBProvider script uses export command to define
environment variables after switch to oracle user.
So it will fail if oracle user uses csh.
Resolution:
Change DBprovider script opspsrvctl to define
environment variable before switch to oracle user.
6. Storage provider performs redundant storage probes and
does a full probe when this is not always necessary.
Resolution:
Add caching to storage provider and allow for a less
expensive probe if the data being requested doesn't
require the full probe.
7. Internally, we convert from unsigned long to unsigned
int, which can result in data loss.
Resolution:
Keep the variable as unsigned long, and not as unsigned
int to prevent data loss.
PHSS_31074:
1. This patch only contains an enhancement that allows
Serviceguard to utilize the services of the identd
daemon. This patch requires a Serviceguard patch level
of PHSS_32740 or later.
Enhancement:
No (superseded patches contained enhancements)
PHSS_32741:
This patch delivers new functionality that allows
SGCOM to support the configuration of IP over
InfiniBand network interfaces in a cluster for
heartbeat and data networks.
PHSS_31074:
This patch delivers new functionality that allows
Serviceguard to utilize the services of the identd
daemon. This patch requires a Serviceguard
patch level of PHSS_32740 or later.

swlist -l product -a readme -d @ /tmp/PHSS_33040.depot
To put this patch on a magnetic tape and install from the
tape drive, use the command:
dd if=/tmp/PHSS_33040.depot of=/dev/rmt/0m bs=2k
Special Installation Instructions:
For Serviceguard Clusters:
1) If Veritas CVM is configured within
the cluster, halt Serviceguard on the
node the patch is to be installed on.
2) Install this patch on that node.
3) If you have halted the Serviceguard node
(as mentioned in step 1), restart Serviceguard
on that node.
4) Patch needs to be installed on all nodes in the
cluster.
The above instructions apply to any A.11.16.00
Serviceguard cluster and include all configurations
including those using SGeRAC, SGeSAP, and MetroCluster,
for example.
For PHSS_31074, the patch requires a Serviceguard
patch level of PHSS_32740 or later. When this patch is
loaded ServiceGuard will use Identd for authentication
unless this is explicitly disabled. Therefore the
InternetSrvcs product needs to be loaded when Identd is
used. This product contains Identd, Sendmail and other
Internet Services.
Please follow the special installation instructions for
PHSS_32740 for installing these two patches simultaneously.
Note that Cluster Object Manager does not require
the Sendmail product to be configured or running
on a system in order to utilize the new identd
enhancement. Sendmail must be installed only
because the identd daemon is delivered with the
Sendmail product.
If you would prefer to install this patch and choose
not to utilize the identd functionality (thus obviating
the need to enable identd), do the following steps on
each node after installing PHSS_32740 or later and
PHSS_31074 or later but before having each node re-join
the cluster (e.g. before issuing a cmrunnode or cmruncl).
1) Change the cmomd entry in /etc/inetd.conf to
appear as:
hacl-probe stream tcp nowait root \
/opt/cmom/lbin/cmomd /opt/cmom/lbin/cmomd -i -f \
/var/opt/cmom/cmomd.log -r /var/opt/cmom
The cmclconfd line should appear as:
hacl-cfg stream tcp nowait root /usr/lbin/cmclconfd \
cmclconfd -c -i
2) Reload inetd: "/usr/sbin/inetd -c"
